SPECIAL EDUCATION

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law.  The IDEA tells what the schools must do for students with disabilities. It prescribes what schools must do to identify students that might need Special Education Services. The Minnesota Disability Law Center has published details on how these children are identified and what rights parents and students have. Language and culture are not and should never be considered a disability.  It is important for parents and students to know their rights.

The Minnesota Department of Education has listed information regarding Special Education on its website in both English and Spanish.
